BlackBerry App World - Tomorrow?
July 30, 2009 @ 1:08 p.m.
I know, I know... many people will think "Why is this guy so excited about App World - it was already released in April!"
But I am in Germany and App World is not yet released here. App(World)arently it will launch tomorrow in some countries in Europe. I am very excited for this because it is also said that it will be v1.1 with some new features and functions. Please RIM did you add a 'New Software' and 'Updated Software' list!
LaterDude vs. LaterDude Pro
July 22, 2009 @ 12:32 p.m.Today I released a new application: LaterDude Pro
About a month ago I released LaterDude, the light version of LaterDude Pro, where you only can create events from the Call Log.
So what are the advantages of LaterDude Pro?
LaterDude Pro is an application that reminds you to call, SMS or email someone. The efficiency of it is that it interacts with the system and creates a new event into the internal calendar application.
After installation, LaterDude Pro is available for use on your device. It does not have an icon but is always present on your system via the Menu.
You click on Menu -> Remind me later! to access the application.
You can launch LaterDude Pro from everywhere, but if you are in the following applications then you can invoke the current entry:
- Call Log
- Messages/email Application
- SMS Application
- Address Book
From these 4 applications you can select an entry to directly get its contents imported into the fields of LaterDude Pro.
For example if you want to get notified tomorrow that you have to contact your Doctor, you go into the Address Book, scroll to your Doctor’s entry, press Menu -> Remind me later! to set up a call-back reminder. The phone number and name is then already set in the LaterDude Pro application.
LaterDude - Working on v2.0
July 16, 2009 @ 7:14 a.m.
Since I released the freeware application LaterDude about 3 weeks ago, 7303 users downloaded the application. That's quite a lot as I only distribute it via my site. I use the application more than 20 times daily to remind me of getting back to people.
I am currently working on a new, paid version of the application and would like YOU to give feedback what new functions and features you want to see. Best thing is you contact me via Twitter. Just send me a reply to @FabianMH with your request!
AppWorld - What's missing?
July 13, 2009 @ 12:21 p.m.
On 1st April 2009, RIM started the Application Store AppWorld, following the lead of the already extremely successful AppStore Apple brought up about a year ago.
RIM announced the fact that they will start an Application Store at the Developer Conference in Santa Clara in October 2008. Since then a lot of Developers and Consumers were waiting for the day they would launch AppWorld. Finally on the 1st April 2009 it got released – but the name ‘AppWorld’ is already quite misleading: The word ‘World’ is not true since it only launched in UK, Canada and the USA at the beginning. Rumors float around that AppWorld will finally start in some countries of Europe in July 2009.
The fact that RIM has launched AppWorld is pleasant – but it leaks some serious functions. When compared to other on-device Application Stores you find that they are much superior then AppWorld.
Here is a list of functions RIM should include in a new Version of AppWorld:
- Add a Bestseller List (There is just a Top 25 List but that is only ordered by downloads, not by sales)
- Separate Paid and Free apps
- Supports more payment options next to PayPal
- Include a ‘More-Apps-From-This-Developer’-Link in the Application
- Add a ‘New Software’-List (The user does not know when/where he can find new apps)
- Add a ‘Updated Software’-List
- Plug the Memory-Leak
- Insert a Coupon Code function for Users (Coupon Codes are very attractive sale-accelerators)
- Make it available all over the World
- Create a Desktop-Version of AppWorld so that Users can buy from the PC
- Add Themes to the List
- Cut the $2.99 minimum Price Tag
- ‘Push’ it to all BlackBerry Devices
I know RIM can do that! Let’s hope they bring out a new version with some of these features! RIM normally does a great job with their products. Why did you not work on a perfect version of AppWorld prior launching it?
