One of the new features of Apple’s iOS 6 is the Maps app. Despite the overwhelming hype that was created for the launch of Apple’s own map application, many were very disappointed when they were finally able to take it out for a spin. In fact, Codacon even warned that iOS6 Maps could be potentially dangerous because it can get you lost in no time.
What does the competition do? Of course, they come up with an ad to showcase how much better their product is. Google’s Motorola Droid Razr M ad was not so subtle though.
They didn’t stop at that, they also launched a social media marketing campaign on Twitter that involved the hashtag #iLost, just to prove their point.
“Looking for 315 E 15th in Manhattan? Google Maps on DROID RAZR M will get you there & not # iLost in Brooklyn.”
“Try 315 E 15th in Manhattan? Google Maps on Razr M will take you to your destination and there # iLost (you will not miss) in Brooklyn.”
While iOS 6 Maps is certainly less superior than Google Maps, everyone knows how quick Apple is at jumping the gun to correct errors and improve their applications. You can pretty much expect a update on your iOS 6 Maps in the following months. However, iOS 6′s highly integrated platform and navigation capabilities using Google Navigator make the shortcomings of their maps app forgivable.
Google Maps still make it to the top of the list today. While their method of advertising is certainly entertaining, we hope to see further improvements on the navigation app on Android devices because of the competition brought in by Apple.
